Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has this afternoon provided a brief update on the fitness of midfielder Paul Pogba, ahead of his side’s upcoming meeting with AZ Alkmaar.
United back in action
Premier League giants United are set to see out their Europa League group stage campaign on Thursday night.
The Red Devils will welcome Eredivisie outfit AZ to Old Trafford, for their 6th and final Group L fixture.
As things stand, the Manchester powerhouse sit top of the table, with 10 points from their 5 outings to this point.
This haul has seen United secure their spot in the competitions’s last-16, with a game to spare.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, though, could yet finish as Group L’s runners-up.
Their opponents tomorrow night, AZ Alkmaar, currently sit just a point behind United, meaning a victory for the visitors in 24 hours time would see them leapfrog the Red Devils into top spot.
‘Remains to be seen’
As such, speaking earlier today in anticipation of his side’s latest outing, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided a fitness update on his squad.
First, on long-term injury absentees Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Marcos Rojo and Nemanja Matic, the United boss explained:
‘We are getting them back and, say, in 2020 we will have a strong and fit squad, definitely.’
‘They are working hard to get back and they want to be part of this.’
Solskjaer was then drawn on the fitness of Paul Pogba.
World Cup winner Pogba hasn’t featured for Manchester United since a 1-1 draw with Arsenal late in September.
The midfielder is sidelined with a long-standing ankle problem, but had been expected to return imminently.
Based on the latest comments of his manager, though, while Pogba has made a return to light training, an exact return date has yet to be determined.
As per the Red Devils’ official website:
‘Ole stated that Paul Pogba “is on the grass and training”, but it remains to be seen when the France international will be fit enough to make his return to action.’
