Real Madrid have no plans to dip into the transfer market this summer other than to fulfil their dream of signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. Carlo Ancelotti, then, is facing a tough challenge upon his return to Valdebebas.

There has been talk of a reconstruction of the squad, but Los Blancos don’t have many extravagant plans for summer signings.

The club’s financial situation imposes quite a different reality. Florentino Perez maintains that they cannot sign freely this summer, and even sales are more complicated this summer because of the problems brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The recoverable

Ancelotti knows that there are players already on the books at the club that he can try to get better performances out of. Eden Hazard, Marcelo, Isco and even Gareth Bale are on that list.

Mbappe‘s possible arrival aside, Real Madrid‘s priority this summer is income. Financial cuts are not a thing of the past and they need to be made, particularly with fans’ return to the stands still being a mystery.

For now at least, Ancelotti has held out a hand to Bale, Isco and Marcelo. All three are under contract and the club don’t expect their departures to come easily. Even Mariano Diaz isn’t counted upon, but that has been the case for a while now and he hasn’t been sold on, and not through a lack of trying on the club’s part.

Martin Odegaard and even Ferland Mendy have become vulnerable to a potential sale. Both have high market values and could be of interest to clubs. Raphael Varane is in a similar position, but is entering the last year of his contract. Luka Jovic is also likely to attract some attention.

What will happen to Hazard?

Hazard deserves to be separated from the above. A lot of people still haven’t moved on from the player’s on-field jokes with Kurt Zouma after Chelsea eliminated Real Madrid from the Champions League, but his form since joining makes him hard to sell.

Ancelotti has already made it clear that he wants to get Hazard back to his best and the Belgian wants to continue at the club as well.

Brahim Diaz has shone at AC Milan and the Italians want to sign him. Dani Ceballos is under contract and is reluctant to go out on loan again.

Beyond all of the above, there might be some loan moves for the younger players like Reinier Jesus and Take Kubo.
